About Cathy Wright:
Cathy is a graduate of the University of Southern California with a Master's Degree in Social Work. A licensed clinical social worker, she has been conducting group, couples and individual psychotherapy for 20 years. Besides grief, she has treated all forms of depression and anxiety as well as relationship problems, eating disorders and the general stress of life. Her extensive experience has shown how people can move beyond their pain and suffering to a place of fulfillment and satisfaction. She maintains a private practice in Pasadena, California.
Cathy has always had a special place in her heart for animals. She was inspired to start a pet grief support group after the loss of her beloved German shepherd, Lobo, in 2005. Lobo was a special animal (and don't all pet guardians think so?). At times he seemed to display the best human qualities of affection, loyalty, humor, dignity and even wisdom. Yet he had pure shepherd dog instincts, herding any visitors around and insisting (with yelps and whines) that everyone be within his sight. And like every dog alive, he loved a lamb bone better than anyone ever loved their dessert.
As he aged, Lobo developed a collection of health problems, including seizures and a neurological ailment that weakened his hind legs. But throughout it all, he never seemed to lose his zest for living or his deep-seated attachment to his guardians. With Lobo gone, another dog has joined the family -- Magic, a young Belgian shepherd-mix with boundless speed and energy. But Lobo's place in Cathy's memory is secure. Her pet grief therapy group is the best way to remember him.
